Know your insurance policy and your rights
Car insurance policies are legal documents and are often lengthy and hard to understand. Unless you work with insurance law all the time, it is difficult, if not impossible to know precisely what your policy means and what your coverage promises.
At Stambaugh Law P.C., we want you to have a thorough understanding of your insurance policy and your rights. We want to help you be an educated consumer who gets the most from what you pay for. While insurance needs vary from one person to the next, we advise our clients about the top three concerns they should have to ensure that a policy has the coverage they need.
- Does the policy have full tort or limited tort coverage? Limited tort coverage means that your right to seek compensation for your injuries may or will be significantly limited. Ask for full tort coverage.
- Do you have adequate uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage? Make sure that the limits on uninsured and underinsured coverage are as high as your liability limits. There are many uninsured and/or underinsured motorists on the road. If you are hit by an uninsured and/or underinsured motorist, you will be dependent on your own policy to cover your personal injury losses. Be as concerned about yourself as you are for anyone you might injure.
- Do you have “stacking” on your policy? If there is more than one vehicle on your policy, stacking can increase your liability limits for an accident. Stacking is available for a minimal additional charge.
- Do you know what your insurance premium entitles you to? Do you know what your accident coverage is? Bring in your policy and your questions.
